New Superman

So the first guy is Brandon Routh who in my opinion did a great job playing Superman/Clark in "Superman Returns".That film failed five years ago to reignite the Supes franchise the way that "Batman Begins"did the year before. That is not Routh's fault, there are many factors.Batman will always draw people in over Superman.People like a bad boy,not a boy scout,it's just unfortunate. So instead of trying to continue in that line of continuity,WB decided to start over again.I understood why they did this with the Bat franchise,it was left in ruins, and the last film was released in 1997.They had to do something drastic. The last Superman film was 1987,yet they carried on the original continuity's story with "Superman Returns",which unlike the last couple of Batman films in the 90's was not considered a bad film, just not popular. So here we are with a brand new beginning for Superman, which probably means another origin story, and of course a new actor.British actor Henry Cavill, second pictured.I know him from nothing, and have no problem with him except that routh should still be Superman.I'm sure the thinking at WB is that the average moviegoer will be confused by the contradicting story elements in this new franchise and the fact that the same actor is essentially playing two different versions of Superman.I also think that the average moviegoer gets over stuff like this easily.People still go see Bond movies despite the fact that the actor only lasts an average of five films. After the next Batman film, which is reportedly Chris Nolan's last(as well as Christian Bale's)the average moviegoer will still go and see Batman films.I guess I can summon my feelings in two statements, give Routh a chance and Superman doesnt have a scraggly beard.

  1. Completely agree about WB not wanting confusion, but it really should be the next logical step for Welling to play him on the big screen, after all he has been spearheading the 10 season origin story already.

  2. You would think, but they would never base a film off of the Smallville series, not enough people watch it,let alone know it's even on anymore. They wipe the slate clean, and if this does'nt stick, expect a new Superman actor and filn in about 8 years
